PLAN B

We finally made it to Plan B a small restaurant in the Pocket Area. The place is tiny.. 4 2 person tables, 4 or so 4 person tables and about 14 seats around the gracefully curved bar. The decor is minimal.. white walls with red roses in vase sconces on the wall dark wood shelves with mirrors and candles, those small hanging lights over the counter area. Very modern and classic.
They have a beer and wine bar.. a couple of French beers and Guinness, Hefewiezen, something domestic. Wines are a mix of French and California. The house red wine is a french wine... very good. The specials of the night were Rack of Lamb w/mint oil $23.95, Fillet Mignon w/green peppercorn and Roquefort butter. 427.95, Rainbow Trout w/brown butter and almonds, Grilled Pork Chop. Soup of the day was Potato Leek and French Onion.
We started with the Fried Calamari and peppers w/ Spicy Marinara sauce. It was good, the coating could have been a little crisper, but the Marinara sauce was good and spicy, it went especially with the yellow and green peppers. Charlie also had the Spinach Salad w/almonds in a vinegrette. Charlie said it was OK.. we like a sweeter dressing for spinach salad.
I had the Roasted Chicken w/ mashed potato topped with Ratatouille. Charlie had the Rack of Lamb with mashed potato topped with Ratatouille. The Lam was medium rare but there was only 4 little chops...Charlie said it was good but too small. The chicken was good (I figured a french restaurant should be able to do a good chicken) roasted with herbs with pan juices and mashed potato with the ratatouille. I love ratatouille, it was very good. The mashed potatoes were just OK. The chicken was moist.. even the breast meat.
For desert I had the Raspberry Tartlet.. Pate Brisse crust with an almond filling and fresh raspberries on top. Charlie had the Chocolate Mousse. The tartlet was really good. My only complaint was that the crust was rather tough. The Chocolate Mousse was also very good.. good and chocolaty.
I'm glad we finally got in... it was good. There are a lot of dishes I want to try.. the mussels, the burger, the onion soup and on and on..
It's nice to finally have a good high end restaurant in the neighborhood.
