The last couple of times I've rented a car I've gotten the Garmin GPS unit. I have a tendency to get lost going around the block.. no sense of direction at all. The first time I used it was in San Diego to get from the airport to my daughters house. Usually she picked us up but this time she wasn't able so I rented a car and I actually got there with no problem. In Hawaii our Garmin worked marginally well, there was something wrong with it and it kept telling us to turn left.. even when there was no left to be made. We ended up naming the GPS unit Jessica since it was being rather blonde. This last week when I went to San Diego again I rented a car and rented the Garmin.. it was invaluable in getting me to the Naval Hospital and shopping and to Dave and Busters and all around the area. Suffice it to say even with "Jessica" I sometimes take the wrong turn or freeway exit and sometimes do it on purpose just to see what happens. "Jessica" recalculates and gets me right back on track and on my way.

Our Suburban has Onstar, but it's expensive per month to have the turn by turn direction plan so tonight I bought myself a Garmin.. Hey, it got me home from Costco with no problem.

This model does everything but drive the car.. Bluetooth, MP3, MSN direct free for a year which gives you traffic conditions, weather, detours on your route etc. I'm still not sure of all the things it does. Best thing is I can take it with me so I don't have to rent one at the car rental lot.

Now I'll never be lost again... maybe.

Hi found your blog while surfing and want to thank you. I think it's great that you are rating stuff that you have experienced first hand. Saves me a lot of time. Keep up the good work; I'll be reading.
