THE FERRY BUILDNG- SAN FRANCISCO

Mare and I took Sue to a Drs. appointment in San Francisco. Since we were out there we figured we'd take advantage of it. It was a gorgeous day, the fog lifted early and it was warm and sunny. We got through with all the medical stuff around 11:30 or so then headed to the Ferry Building. None of us had been there yet, but had heard a lot about it.

We were trying to find parking lot near the building but all were full..lo and behold they had valet parking. I love valet parking!

This is a beautiful building filled with everything from Sur la Tabel to wine to caviar and everything in between. The Slanted Door is there along with an assortment of little cafes and take out places. We walked the whole building checking out everything then decided we needed lunch. We didn't want to wait at the Slanted Door so ended up at Mijita Mexican Cochina. It is a little cafe by Traci Des Jardins, you order at the counter and they deliver your order to your table. I had the Taco Pescado..fish taco. Batter fried Mahi Mahi in a soft corn tortilla with with cabbage and avocado sauce. Queso Fundido- Melted Mexican cheese topped with spicy chorizo w/warm flour tortilla. Sue had the crispy chicken taco..kind of like taquitos (3) and Mare had the special Mijita quesadilla, it looked like an empanada. We also had chips and salsa. The salsa was good with a smokey flavor. Everything was pretty good.. not your typical Mexican food, which I guess is good- it wasn't Taco Bell. It was different, probably more authentic.

After lunch we went to the Gelato stand and Sue got a scoop of the Valrhona chocolate gelato..wow it was good. We bought some bread at Acme Bread and I got some cheese at the Cowgirl Creamery, we also got some Italian pastry that looked liked jelly filled donuts. We also went to Sur La Table and checked out all their wares.

Next time I go back I want to try the Slanted Door, Hog Island Oysters and Czar Nicoulai Caviar Bar. We had a good time... Can't wait to return.
