When we first arrived we were given a tasting of their Sumation wine. A light fruity wine, good on such a warm day. We sipped this and looked around as they set up our table out on the patio. All the wines had been set up lightest to the more robust. They explained to us what we would be served. It was nice to sit out 0n the patio, see the gardens and sip our wine.
The first pairing was Crostini with Delice de la Vallee cheese, Cherry Tomatoes, Radishes, and White Vejus Vinaigrette. This was paired with a 2009 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. Also on the plate was a Johnny cake with Trout Roe and Sour cream. This was paired with a 2007 Highland Estates Camelot Highlands Chardonnay.
The second plate had a Buckwheat Crepe with Smoked Ham and Bellwether Farms Carmody Cheese; paired with a 2006 Highland Estates Seco Highlands Pinot Noir. Sweet Tea Brined
Niman Ranch Pork Belly slider with Syrah BBQ Sauce; paired with the 2006 Highland Estates Alisos Hills Syrah. Last was the Korean Style Kobe Beef Lettuce Wrap; paired with a 2005 Highland Estates Trace Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon.
After our wine and food pairing we visited a few other wineries. A couple of our favorites were Simi Winery and Chateau St. Jean and one of the most spectacular was Coppola Winery
It seems this just opened recently since there is still some construction going on. Apparently they will have a day spa open soon. Karen and I decided that would make a great day trip. They also have a restaurant in addition to the tasting room. There is also a lot of memorabilia from different movies by Francis Ford Coppola. This place would be worth a second visit just to see everything we didn't see on this trip. We had a great day with lots of wine and later more food.
