A VERY TAUMATIC DAY
OK so if this doesn't make a lot of sense it's because I had one too many glasses of wine, which I needed tonight. I got a call from Charlie early this afternoon. I was outside deciding where I was going to plant the tomatoes and peppers and wasn't sure I wanted to run in and answer the phone..thank goodness I did. Charlie is on the other end sounding breathless and I knew something is wrong. He wants me to bring him a change of clothes. I ask him what is wrong and he says he just rolled his truck into the drainage ditch out at his duck club. I ask if he's alright and he says yes, just bring him some dry clothes and he'll meet me by the road. So, I grab some dry clothes and rush out to the duck club on Sankey Rd which is in Pleasant Grove. He is sitting on the ground soaking wet, with a guy helping him up. Apparently he was going out to his duck blind and hit a rut in the road which caused his truck to become airborne and land upside down in the drainage ditch. Luckily this man was fishing down there and saw it happen and ran over there to help. Charlie said all he could remember was that the water was filling the cab of the truck fast (the drivers side window was open a crack) and he was disoriented and had a hard time finding where the window was and the crank for the window. Thank god we had manual window cranks and not electronic. If we had electronic windows Charlie would have drowned. He said he tried kicking the window but didn't have enough leverage and in the murky water he couldn't see anything. Everything was by feel and water was coming in at a very fast rate, he said he could only think that he was going to drown. Thank goodness he got the window open at the last minute and got out. The man who witnessed all of this helped him up the bank and helped him to the road where he lent him his cell phone to call me. We called AAA but of course that didn't do any good since their trucks cannot go off road. So we then called College Oak Tow who had pulled Charlie and his buds out of the mud just a couple of weeks before. They came out but didn't think their truck could pull Charlie's truck out so then went back to get a hauler and came back.. So.. Charlie is the one swimming back out to his truck to attach the cable.. I was pissed to say the least.. isn't it the job of the tow company to do this????? I didn't say anything, kept my mouth shut but was worried that now he was going to drown trying to put the damn cables on his truck to they could hoist it to shore. He tied a rope around his waist and his friend Jeff was there holding the rope so they could haul him in, in case anything happened. Luckily all ended well with them getting his truck out of the water, he saved a lot of his work stuff (this was a work truck) and tomorrow he'll go down to the tow place and get the rest of the stuff out of his truck which is totally ruined. I left a message for our insurance company so guess they'll go down there too and declare the truck a loss. We spent all day there, by the time the guys got the truck out and towed it off it was at least 7pm. Charlie is hurting, but mentally and physically. I know this affected him a lot, though he keeps making jokes about it. Let me tell you.. after all was said and one, I was in tears. To think I came that close to loosing him.. all I could think was just tell the person you love that you love them every day when they leave for work or whatever because it may be the last time you see them. Not a very comforting thought but true.

Wow I am so glad he's OK! We always joke about the manual window cranks on our cars but it sounds like they came in handy. Sorry about the truck, but that can be replaced...

WOW, I would've needed a glass of wine or 5 also. Glad Charlie is ok!
