PARADISE POINT RESORT AND SPA

This was our annual "girls" weekend at the beach. Tianna, Sydney and I went to Paradise Point Resort and Spa in San Diego which, I had seen on an episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8. I had been looking for a nicer hotel to stay at. Normally we go to Pacific Beach but the hotels are old and not especially world class. If I'm going to pay $200.00 a night I want something better than a Best Western, even if it is right on the beach. Paradise Point was both on Mission Bay and had a lagoon. It was a 44 acre property with five swimming pools, two restaurants and the Tropics Pool Bar and Grill which served not only drinks but sandwiches, salads and other goodies pool side during the day.
The property looked like a tropical paradise..Upon checking in one of the hotel personnel took the girls in a golf cart while I followed in the car and showed us to our room. Our room had two queen size beds a large bathroom, walk in closet, mini fridge and a small patio overlooking a lush garden with lots of hibiscus and bird of paradise plants and palm trees.
The first night we decided to go to Baleen the upscale restaurant on the property. We decided to have an early dinner then walk around and check out some of the resort.
We opted to sit out on the patio since it was a beautiful evening. What a great view of the bay, it was gorgeous. We were brought two big muffin looking foccacia bread with olive oil and basalmic vinegar for dipping. The bread was crisp on top from the cheese and soft inside, so good. We decided to share the Artesian Cheese plate, 3 different cheeses (goat, Parmesan, and another white mild cheese maybe machego) with dried fruit, candied walnuts and some honey comb. Sydney loves cheese and enjoyed the experience of pairing fruit and honey with the cheeses. Tianna wanted the Parmesan Truffle Fries.. those were addictive!
For our entrees, Tianna had Seared Ahi tuna, I had the Halibut and Syd had the Spaghetti. Syd is not an adventurous eater, but eating with us she's begun to try a lot of new things. Desert was a Black Bottom Creme Brulee and Bread Pudding. We were hungry so sorry, you got pictures of half eaten food. It's a good thing the property is so large, it gave us a chance to walk off dinner. We walked down the pier and checked out the boats and kayaks that are available to rent and said we'd do that tomorrow. There are also fish that you can feed (fish food can be bought at the gift shop). We checked out the gift shop and the spa and the pool area. The girls wanted to go swimming so we started walking back to our room.. we thought we knew where we were.. it was getting dark and there isn't much lighting so we got totally turned around. After walking around for a while we saw one of the guys in the golf cart and flagged him down and had him show us where our room was. We were only on the other side of a driveway but didn't know it. The girls changed and we went to the pool for a while, it was nice sit out there, it was so peaceful. Then it was to bed.. the girls ordered a movie while Grandma slept through most of it..
The next morning we got up and headed to the Barefoot Bar and Grill for breakfast. It is next to Baleen on the other side of the pier. We sat outside and enjoyed the view and a gorgeous morning. The food there was good though service at breakfast is slow. I had the California Benedict which had avocado, smoked salmon and tomatoes.. it was delicious but I wish it was hot. Tianna had the Denver Omelet and Syd had French toastThough we thought the service was slow the food was good and it was interesting to watch the birds hang out waiting for food to drop. After breakfast we had to check out the gift shop again then we made reservations for the spa later in the day. We also rented golf clubs and balls to play the 18 hole miniature golf. We ended up playing 10 holes before the girls got bored, we had the golf equipment until 7pm so we decided to come back before dinner and finish the game. We then went and walked way over where they rented bikes and rented a four wheeled bike for half an hour. The girls took turns biking us around the property. We then went down the pier and rented a paddle boat for Tianna and I and a kayak for Syd. The bay is nice and calm easy to paddle around. We saw a seal who brazenly followed fishing boats or any boat he thought might have a meal for him. After the boating adventure we went back to our room to hang out for a while then headed for the spa. The girls both had manicures while I had a much needed massage, aahhh it was so relaxing and nice. After the spa we again went back to the room to relax, me out on the patio with a book and the girls watching TV. We finished the rest of our mini golf game then turned in the equipment and on to dinner. Dinner tonight would be at the Barefoot Bar and Grill again. It was getting cool this evening so we ate inside but the view was still nice since the restaurant is surrounded by large windows. We started with the Artichoke,Spinach dip.. entrees were a hamburger for me and the girls had Fettuchini Alfredo plus desert, which I can't remember what they ordered. Again the food was very good, service much better.
We went back to the room and the girls changed into their swim suits again and we were back at the pool for the evening. After swimming we stopped at the gift shop bought some snacks and settled into the room and ordered another movie and had a nice relaxing night.
Sad to say Sunday was our last day. We packed up and then went to breakfast at the grill again. After breakfast we did a final room search to make sure we were not forgetting to pack anything. We were trying to decide what else we wanted to do that day since it was only around 11:30 when we checked out. As we did the previous years we went to The Big Dipper at Belmont Park. We spent the day there the girls going on the rides and to the arcade. By around 2 everyone had pretty much wilted and were ready to go home.
We had a great weekend and agreed that we would like to go back to Paradise Point again next year..provided they don't out grow spending time with grandma. They assured me they wouldn't. Here are some pictures of the property and of the girls enjoying the weekend.
