GONUL'S

This evening Charlie and I, were once again trying to figure out where to go for dinner. A lot of our problem is we get stuck in a rut and go to the same places over and over. Anther is that a lot of places that I'd like to go to are closed on Sunday night. Tonight I wanted to go somewhere different, so I called around and Gonul's was open.. Yaa! I've been there once before quite a while ago and remembered it was good.
We were quickly seated and started off with some wine and beer. We were brought 4 large focaccia bread with hummus, taziki, and olive oil with herbs. The bread was delicious as was the hummus and the olive oil. The taziki was ok, nothing special.

The appetizer we ordered was Warm Goat cheese on polenta. We were brought 2 squares (large) of polenta topped with sauteed vegetables and warm goat cheese w/walnuts. It was also on top a bed of spinach and chopped tomatoes. This was pretty good, it needed more goat cheese as there wasn't much goat cheese taste and it needed that tang. Polenta was good but all in all it was a pretty boring dish.
We then split the spinach salad, which was OK.. it did have lots of bacon and some really good candied walnuts, and I don't even like walnuts but it was nothing special.

My entree was the chicken stuffed with apricots, dates, preserved lemon, golden raisins, shallots, goat cheese & cream cheese. There also was yellow and green zucchini but for some reason they were cold. The chicken was delicious. Charlie had the grilled salmon with black beans and seasonal fruit relish. He said it was good.
Desert was Baklava for me and Scotti and strawberry ice cream for Charlie

I really enjoyed dinner here this evening, it was a nice change from steak or prime rib. I would definitely go back again.

We passed that leaving La Trattoria Boheme. It doesn't sound like something I'd be dying to try though...but maybe.

I do love a good hummus..and love mediterrean food...probably spelled that wrong but don't care.
