Lemon Grass and wine

The "hosts", Mai Pham and her sister Denise Tuesday night I got invited to a wine dinner at Lemon Grass. The dinner was hosted by a couple " who shall remain nameless". I think actually the host is probably wanted for some nefarious crime back in his hey day... hence no names... just kidding. These two are the consummate host and hostess. Said host is a wine connoisseur and the wines we had were gorgeous and went well with the Asian flavors of the Lemon Grass menu.
We had our dinner in the private dinning room, a beautiful room that will probably seat 12.

We started out with the 1995 Bollinger Grand Anne Champagne in magnum size.. Oh! that was a great champagne. I don't know if we killed that magnum or not.. I know I did my best to put a dent in it. We got a visit from Mai Pham (the owner) and her sister Denise for a few minutes. She and the hosts are good friends. Both Mai and her sister are very nice and posed for pictures with the "hosts" for me even though they were both probably really busy.

We started with appetizers of the Crispy Spring Rolls, Salad Rolls and the Garden Rolls. Mai also sent her Papaya salad in for us. I love her papaya salad because it has just the right heat to it.. it's not incendiary.
For entrees I had the Green Curry with seafood. Chris had the Grilled Saigon Pork.. Katie on my right had the Pan Seared Basa (white fish), Across the table someone had the Siamese Seafood Bouillabaisse and I'm not sure what the rest of the table had.

The wines for this course were: 1998 Zind Humbrecht Gewurztraminer, 3 bottles different vineyards from the Turkheim vineyard area from Grand Cru to the regular bottling;the vineyards were, I believe: Turckheim, Herrenweg de Turckheim, and Gubeschewir (spelling?) Turchheim.1989 La Nerthe Cuvee de Cadettes Chateauneuf de Pape in magnum.1989 Henri Bonneau Cuvee Marie Burrier Chateaneuf de Pape. The Chateaneuf de Pape's were the reds. All these wines were wonderful and the Gewurztraminer went well with my curry, but of course I had to try all the wines and since I love reds the Pape was my favorite.
Of course there was desert, do I ever not have desert? This was a special cake that had been arranged for us. It was a White Chocolate Lychee cake. It was so good.. I'm not a big lychee fan but in this cake it was good. Of course we had a desert wine, a 1954 Henriques & Henriques Malvazia Madeira. Mmm! It was deep rich and mellow..
We even got to to take some cake home and we also got a little box of Godiva Chocolates at each place setting... how cool was that. It was a wonderful time and met some very nice dinner partners. Thank you to our hosts "who shall remain nameless".
