THE CORNER BAR

Sunday night we decided to try The Corner Bar. It used to be Sweetwater until they moved down town. Evan Elsberry of Evan's Kitchen is over seeing the menu. This is the old Shakey's Pizza building. For a rainy Sunday night they were doing a pretty good business. You can either eat in the bar area or there is a quieter dining room in the back. We opted to eat in the bar area, the bar itself was full and about 6 tables were taken in the bar area. They were seating more of the patrons back in the dining room. The bar area is pretty loud, they have several TV's around the room which that night had a football game going on. Plus everyone in the room talking, but I kind of like the energy in there. If I wasn't getting so darned hard of hearing I'd really like it.
We started with the Fried Calamari, calamari steak cut into strips, crusted and fried. It was good.. I normally don't like calamari steak, I'd rather have the rings but this was very good. Well seasoned crunchy crust. The tartar and cocktail sauces weren't anything special but it was a good dish.Charlie had the Caesar Salad, which was good, the croutons were better than average and the Salmon for his entree. I didn't taste salmon, but it looked good. It was charbroiled with a tomato, dill and Sambucca burre blanc with rice and vegetable.

I decided to have a couple of appetizers for my dinner. I had the Kobe Sliders with cheese and house sauce and fries.. The sliders were outstanding cooked medium rare and very tasty. The fries were sad. They were cold and had no flavor.. I love fries but these even I couldn't eat.

I also had the Carnitas Lolipop- a very tender pork.. I don't know what cut but the bone had been frenched and the meat all bunched up at the bottom so it looked like a lolipop.. it came with guacamole (I think it was from one of those tubs you can buy at Costco), sour cream and little tortillas. The pork was fall off the bone tender but needed more flavor and the tortillas were not warm at all.. it is supposed to be one of their signature dishes so I was disappointed.

Desert was a kind of a banana split sundae.. bananas, chocolate and vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce.. Ok, not anything special

All in all it was pretty good, I'd go back to try some of the other things on the menu.. a nice casual neighborhood bar and grill.
